Hair Thinning or Alopecia
Hair Thinning
Are you losing hair? Is your hair brush filled with clumps of hair after brushing your hair? We have consultations and treatments available at Miami Beach Comprehensive Wellness Center for hair loss.
Root Cause
Our first approach to any health problem is to look at the medical etiology of what is causing your hair loss. Rather than just treating a problem, we like to get down to the root of what is behind any medical condition. When we can get down to the deeper cause, often the pathophysiology course gets corrected. We prefer to address the fundamental issue, rather than perpetually treating the manifestation of the problem.
What are the common causes of hair loss?
Hair loss can be associated with a variety of medical issues, including but not limited to: autoimmune disease, hormonal imbalances, such as thyroid disorders[1], elevated dihydrotestosterone levels[2], nutritional deficiencies[3], post-COVID-19[4], toxin exposures [5] medications[6], and other causes. Essentially, we see hair loss as a symptom, not a diagnosis.
At Miami Beach Comprehensive Wellness Center, we can run a variety of lab assessments to look at what factors are contributing to hair loss. We can observe nutrient levels, hormones imbalances, antibodies, toxin levels.
How can we treat hair loss?
After assessing the cause of hair loss, we offer a variety of treatments, including topical peptide therapies, detoxification of toxins that are contributing to hair thinning, supplements for nutritional deficiencies, natural correction of hormone imbalances, acupuncture and hair PRP.
Acupuncture has been shown in scientific studies to decrease inflammation, help with immune modulation, and help with hormonal imbalances, therefore it can help with hair loss [7]. Acupuncture is effective for hair thinning and has minimal side effects.
PRP (platelet rich plasma) is another technique which has been scientifically documented to help with hair restoration.[8] In PRP, we draw a small amount of blood from the client’s arm into a laboratory blood tube. Then we centrifuge the blood and the heavier red blood cells fall to the bottom of the tube, and what is left at the top is PRP (platelet rich plasma). Platelet rich plasma contains a number of bioactive compounds that promote healing[9]. After the blood, draw, we numb the scalp with medication. Then, the patient’s own PRP is injected back into the area that needs healing, for example the thin area of the scalp. Studies show that within 3 months, hair density increases in areas where the PRP is injected[10].
