Join me for a fun and exciting look at the Chinese philosophical and medical energetics of the element of Wood.

Wood represents the energies of springtime, sprouts bursting out of the confinement of seeds, upward growth, expansion, reaching goals and evolving an elevated perspective with compassion.

In this class, we will have a discussion about the philosophy of the five elements. These elements are representations of foundational energies which generate creation.

Nothing in this class, constitutes medical advice. However, we will discuss medical implications of an unbalanced wood element.

CLASS DESCRIPTION

The concept of The Five Elements is a philosophical system of correspondence created in ancient China through the observations of nature. Energetic cycles of life are explored through the dynamic interaction of elements/phases. The five elements in Chinese medicine are wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. Some people argue that the word “phase” is a better translation than “element,” as the Chinese word “xing” 行 indicates a process of moving, traveling and circulating, not a physical substance. But most English references use the word “element” when the idea is translated. Each of us has all five of these elements and ideally, they are in balance. The elements can be interpreted as energetic vibrations which dynamically interact, balance, transform and generate reality. Wood represents coming into being, sprouting and growing, spiraling upwards. Fire is the spark of passion, transforming and transmuting physical substance. Earth is a consolidating force, which nourishes and creates concrete reality. Metal represents death, decay, loss, purification and the return to source. Water illustrates the life force which is regenerative and procreative.
